Base defence

Updated 29 July 20263 min read

There is no such thing as a fully protected base in EXO. The job of defence is to make the raid cost more than what is inside.

Concrete is twice as tough as wood

This is the main decision you make.

Structure Wood Concrete
Wall, foundation, window, floor 3 charges 6 charges
Door, gate 2 charges 4 charges

Now remember where C4 comes from: plastic explosive drops only in military buildings and mission crates, it is rare, and one charge needs two pieces. Explosives are always scarce on the server.

A single concrete wall eats six charges — that is a serious commitment, not a casual raid.

Layout beats thickness

A raider takes the shortest path to the loot. Simple things work:

  • Double walls. There should be more than one barrier between the outer shell and the safe.
  • Never put the safe against an outer wall. One wall plus the safe is 6 charges and a minute of grinding.
  • Doors are cheaper than walls. A wooden door is two charges, a concrete wall is six. Do not put a door where a wall would do.

Safes open, but slowly

A safe cannot be blown. It is breached with a grinder — 60 seconds of uninterrupted channelling from 2.5 metres. Any movement cancels it.

That is your window: the raider stands still for a minute and cannot shoot back. With cameras watching or clanmates nearby, a breach can be interrupted.

Put the flag inside the perimeter

Stealing a flag takes 60 seconds and freezes the base for a day — but only if the thief can reach it.

You cannot pack structures right against the flag: a 1.2 metre clearance around it is always enforced. But walling it in at a distance is possible and necessary. A flag behind the perimeter means it cannot be stolen without breaching first.

The classic beginner mistake is planting the flag at the edge and building off to one side. Such a base is taken without a single C4 charge.

On top of that comes the choice of location: away from roads and towns, so the base is never found at all.

Surveillance cameras

The mod has a surveillance system: a laptop and cameras that mount on walls. Cameras only cover what falls inside your territory radius.

Cameras and laptops themselves take three charges. Destroying a wall leaves its camera hanging in mid-air.

What defence does not give you

  • No regeneration. Every breach is repaired manually for 5,000 $ and only after the raid ends.
  • Base level adds no durability. It gives radius, structure limit and garage slots — a level 3 wall is the same wall as a level 1 one.
  • Upkeep matters more than walls. An expired base loses every PIN code and dumps its vehicles outside — worse than any raid.
