Death & lost gear

Updated 29 July 20263 min read

Death in EXO is expensive, but it does not send you back to the start.

What happens

Thing Outcome
Cash Drops into your corpse entirely, balance becomes 0
Gear and weapons Stay on the corpse, anyone can search it
Bank balance Never lost
Reputation −5 % if the killer was not a player
Reputation on PvP No penalty, but the killer takes 5 %
Kill streaks Reset either way
Base, garage, clan, perks Kept

The body

A corpse lasts 30 minutes, then disappears with everything on it. Corpses do not survive a server restart — die five minutes before one and the gear is gone.

A death marker shaped like a coffin appears on your map and minimap. Only you see it, and only your latest death — a new death moves the marker. It lasts as long as the body and disappears if you fully reconnect.

Combat mode

After any combat event you carry a combat flag for 30 seconds. It triggers when:

  • you fire a shot;
  • someone fires within 45 metres;
  • a bullet passes within 15 metres or hits within 18 metres;
  • you take or deal damage;
  • you are inside an active raid zone.

Every new event extends the flag by another 30 seconds — it does not stack, it pushes the end back.

While flagged you cannot build, dismantle structures or use the suicide button.

The only exception is the last 30 seconds before a scheduled restart, where the penalty is disabled.

Inside the trade zone other people's gunfire does not flag you. But a flag set before you entered still ticks down its 30 seconds — running into the zone and logging out immediately will not work.

Suicide

The F2 menu has a suicide button. The cooldown is 10 minutes and it survives both relogging and server restarts. The button is blocked while in combat.

It works like any other death: the body keeps all gear, cash drops, the marker is placed. Suicides do not appear in the killfeed.

Losing less

  • Keep money in the bank. The starting limit is 250,000; a perk raises it to a million.
  • Do not carry everything at once. Anything not in your hands drops with the corpse too.
  • Remember where you died. You have 30 minutes to get back, and the map marker shows the spot.
